About Camp Abilities

Camp Abilities is a developmental sports camp for children who have visual impairments, are blind or are deafblind. The Program is a one week, overnight experience where students learn adapted sports such as Goalball, Beep Baseball, Acquatics, Tandem Biking etc and is devoted to encouraging campers to engage in physical activity.
The first Camp Abilities Program was started in 1996 by Dr. Lauren Lieberman, a professor at the University of Brockport. Since then, Camp Abilities' have been created all over the world from Connecticut to Ireland to Alaska.
Camp Abilities Alaska is held on the campus of the University of Alaska, Anchorage and is held in mid July each year. Campers enjoy a one on one experience as they learn new games activities and sports. It is a great way for children to make new friends, improve their independent living skills and learn that there is nothing stopping them from what they want to do. That is why at Camp Abilities we say, "A Loss of Sight but NEVER a Loss of Vision"!
